Description

Best Roero of the Year (Vini d’Italia dell’Espresso) and a Tre Bicchieri winner again this year so demand for this wine domestically is insane; fortunately Angelo reserved some for us. From a two hectare vineyard in Canale, where heavier clay-based soils produce a dark, brooding red. Angelo has made a conscious decision to go for a 'Riserva' style now; the wine spends 30 months in Slavonian oak before bottling, softening the serious tannins from top-grade Nebbiolo. A superb combination of power and finesse from a great harvest - buy, buy, buy.

Sweet tobacco, crushed leaves, mint, spices and dried red cherries are pushed forward in the 2011 Roero Mompissano, a wine that is everything Roero should be. Silky tannins, expressive aromatics and beautifully layered fruit are the signatures. In 2011, the Mompissano hits all the right notes.
