Decanter Magazine Silver Medal (91/100). 100% old vine Syrah aged in Nièvre oak barrels, the length of time depends on the vintage and then the wines rests in steel tanks before bottling.
‘The golden (hill) side’.  A lifted nose with mocha, cocoa and truffle over ripe, purple fruit. Black and red fruits, touch of peppery spice, subtle toasty nuances.  Good concentration, focused, the combination of ripe Syrah fruit, terroir and structure is very, very enticing - the oak is well integrated and never over powers. Clean and long.  Excellent

Aimé Commeyras was just such a man; once president of the Montpeyroux cooperative, he grew increasingly frustrated at its unfulfilled potential so left create the Domaine de l’Aigueliere high up in the Terrasses du Larzac. They started making and bottling their own wine in 1987 and by the mid-1990s had caught the eye of Robert Parker who described it as “perhaps the best estate in the higher altitudes of the Coteaux du Languedoc”, as the wines became flag-bearers for the fine wine revolution in these parts.

The estate is now run by Aimé's daughter Christine, and his brother Auguste; the excellent Marc Esclarmonde is the consultant oenologist, covering some 12ha of vineyards at Les Terrasses du Larzac, now considered to be the finest site in the entire region and now even has its own AOC. These vineyards are heavily influenced by the cool air from the high Larzac plateau; Mount Baudile peaks at 850m (2800ft) so day/night temperatures can vary as much as 20°C in the hottest months allowing grapes to mature much more slowly which aids balance and complexity. Soil type is also is highly variable (clay, limestone, pebbles, and the volcanic ruffes) grapes are hand-harvested and each parcel of vines is vinified separately in stainless-steel tanks before ageing in a selection of different oak casks.
