Description

Good Albariño is a joy, equally at home with light meals, especially seafood, as it is on its own; to me it is one of the tastes of summer.  Bright, light green/gold colour.  Complex nose of orange, peach, pear  - almost floral, zesty.  Medium bodied, with racy acidity which balances out the ripe, peachy, citrus fruit; elegant and leesy this wine is beautifully balanced and clean with lovely long, balanced  finish.

The almost-impossible-to-find Bodegas Lagar de Candes is tucked away in the village of Meaño, in the heart of the Rías Baixas Val de Salnés, home to some of Galicia's finest white vineyards. The narrow country road from Pontevedro winds itself around the hills as if in no hurry to reach its destination; and the breezy, Atlantic coast lies just 4 kilometres to the west. The soils here are granitic and the vineyards take advantage of the the sun and the cooling breezes and lower night time temperatures to produce perfectly ripe and balanced grapes and what many Albariño experts believe some of the finest examples of this increasingly popular grape.

Eulogio Gondar represents the fourth generation making wine here, taking over the winery just a decade ago; large wineries are very rare here and small, family run farms dominate the area. In winemaking terms everything here very modern and as hands-off as possible, there is no oak to interfere with the expressive race of this delicate variety.
