Product information

Description

Muscadet and richness and words you often see together, but a patch of gabbro (type of basalt) soils on steep hillsides produces amazing depth from vines up to a century old. This exposure and altitude gives more sunshine hours, therefore riper fruit character, beautifully underscored by firm minerality. Conference pear and apple aromas leap from every glass; amazing breadth of fruit on the palate (lime, ripe lemon), with toasted hazelnut notes from lees ageing - truly 'Vin de grand caractères', as the brothers say. Richer fish dishes would be great here, plus lobster or crab, or a good roast chicken perhaps.

Médaille d'Argent Concours Général Paris 2011

The Gobin frères are serious about what they do; they are the fourth generation making wine from vines up to 100 years of age in Maisdon-sur-Sèvre, but having expanded to include a second chai in 2004 the quality has never been higher here, and the family motto 'Sérieux et Amour du travail bien fait' tells you everything you need to know about their commitment to good wine. Vines are cultivated to sustainable agriculture across various soil types, and it is fascinating to try the wines together to see what the Muscadet grape, regularly described as 'neutral', can achieve on differing terroirs.
