Product information

From a good, ripe vintage and a relatively early harvest - this is great fun, bags of wild bramble red fruit character, with some spice also - quite floral. It has a lovely fresh, mineral background from the lime rich soils and Atlantic climate. It’s a delicious, pleasing red, light on its feet and a great partner to a variety of dishes and company – serve chilled.

We have a history of offering the Baga grape which has more than a touch of Nebbiolo about it when used properly, grown throughout Portugal its home is really in Dao and Bairrada. This new take emphasises its elegant, fruit driven side and making it more accessible to a wider audience. These grapes come from old vineyard blocks (80–100 yo) before fermentation in stainless steel for 3 weeks, followed by malolactic fermentation and bottling unfiltered. Very much in the Pet-Nat tradition, Dirk Niepoort is one of Europe's finest innovators, and has recently started a natural / low-intervention project in collaboration with other like-minded winemakers called Nat’ Cool – naturally cool in presentation but with some terrific winemaking behind the concept. To qualify for the label a wine must be natural or low-intervention, low in alcohol, terroir-driven, and ultimately affordable and in one litre bottles (presumably so a couple can share without fighting?).
