Product information

The Paranga red is 50% Merlot with Xinomavro and Syrah. Tempting to say 'international style' but it is still has a character of its own, just as Merlot grown in Italy is not the same as Merlot grown in France so both the classic grapes have a slight wild side to them and the Xinomavro lifts the wine much as Nebbiolo does in northern Italy. Lovely flavours. This fragrant red has a wild feel that northern Rhone fans will love; forest berries and wild cherry with violet hints.

Yiannis Boutaris is a well-known figure in the country, and the estate he set up in 1969 is now overseen by son Stelios; expanded to some 40 hectares Kir-Yianni is now one of the country's largest vineyards making some of Greece's finest wines. The Amyndeon region borders Macedonia in north-west of the mainland, a sandy, breezy plateau at 600-700m elevation (perfect for more refined white winemaking), and grapes come from here and the traditional Xinomavro vineyards of Naoussa (planted back in the 1970s), with a focus on site-specific bottling from 2006. These are highly characterful, expressive wines made with fine wine export markets in mind - what the New Greece is all about.
