Product information

Jean-Marie Berthier created this domaine from scratch in 1980 in the north of the appellation at Sainte-Gemme-en-Sancerrois, a small village close the geographical centre of France - anyone that has visited this part of the Loire knows of its quiet beauty that, fortunately, has a tendency to be overlooked by the tourists compared to some of the more famous parts of the Loire. He currently farms 8.5 hectares or so on the sedimentary soils of Sainte Gemme and limestone of Sury-en-Vaux, it is this combination of grapes grown on different soils and the long hours of sunlight which gives his wines have such an exciting combination of ripe fruit flavours as well as expressing the natural minerally flintiness of classic Sancerre. His fabulous Pinot Noir rosé has proved a huge hit with our customers over the last few years - salmon pink in colour, with crisp, delicate, redcurrant and strawberry fruit with a clean, dry, crisp finish; it's a wine that is satisfying without being over-bearing, yet it works well with a broad range of dishes as well as being just about perfect for sitting and supping whilst watching the world go by.
