Top Rosé Offer
A delightful Provence Rosé and pre-shipping Sancerre Rosé offer
I’m down to the last few cases of the marvellous 2018 Chateau Routas, which is drinking so well now, this news is mitigated by the knowledge that the 2019 vinetage will be arriving in June. Given the weather forecast, it is definitely time to top up with some top-quality, food friendly and genuine Provence Rosé.
We came across the wines of Chateau Routas slightly by accident last summer (never reveal your sources…), but having tasted a glass of this superb pink, we were totally mystified why there didn’t seem to be any available yet in the UK. The stunning vineyards lie to the north of Correns, and actually border those of Ch. Miraval, though the wine has a touch more local feel to our palates. Their first vintage was in 1992, with AOC Coteaux Varois handily created a year later, and the 260 hectares here encompass wheat fields and olive trees matching the great diversity of soil types all at 400m – some of the most elevated vines in the region.
Phillippe Saravica manages the vines at Routas, having grown up nearby and joined from school, and has been workign with Chablis-trained winemaker Jean Louis Bavay for some 25 years now, who has brought his expertise from the legendary Domaine Ott to perfect the wines here. Their understanding is almost telepathic, and it shows in this wonderfully harmonious wine. Now that the wine has had an extra few months to settle down, it is drinking better than ever now, a perfect wine for just sitting and enjoying, or for having with lighter meals.
